JDBG GEMS is a privately held institute. Beyond the collection we run several initiatives, among them global research into precious minerals, carried out with independent specialists and documented for the record.

    Exploration

    An expedition to Namibia is being planned, searching for tourmaline and the rare gemstone jeremejevite.

    Global mineral research

    Field and laboratory study of rare gem minerals, in collaboration with independent mineralogists worldwide.

    Collection & stewardship

    A small holding of singular stones, documented and conserved rather than traded in volume.

    Education & records

    Provenance archives and published notes made available to researchers and serious collectors.

GEMIA · Initiative

An international initiative
for gemstone education.

    A founding role

    JDBG GEMS is among the co-founders of GEMIA, a new international initiative for the gemstone industry.

  2. 02

    Safe and inspiring education

    GEMIA is building an education site for the trade: trustworthy, well-sourced material on gems, treatments and provenance, made welcoming to newcomers and useful to professionals.

  3. 03

    Launch autumn 2026

    The project is planned to launch during the autumn of 2026. Records and study material from the Institute's collection will feed into it.
